Ann Lee Merrill
Ann and her husband Owen recently returned to Michigan after 23 years of retirement in South Carolina, have recently moved to Linden, Michigan.

Ann was born in Detroit, holds a BFA degree from Wayne State University, MA degree from Sienna Heights plus 35 hours of post-graduate in art. She was employed 26 years in Michigan as an art educator, with the majority of time in the Tecumseh High school.

A life long artist, painter, and art educator, Ann finds oil painting the most powerful and direct way to reveal her vision and artist's voice. Just as generations of artists before her, she is fascinated by the beauty, atmosphere, color, and light of the landscape. The challenge is to communicate that feeling with brush and paint, capturing some transitory occurrence in the environment and preserving the pristine. Her work includes landscapes, architecture, figures, and "slice of life images" portrayed with a loose brush.

A student of art history, Ann has traveled with her husband and camera, visiting art museums throughout the US and many countries in Europe. She also did a teacher exchange for a year in Finland where she completed a series of 20 watercolors. Her travels have included two tours of South Africa, a month stay in New Zealand, and several weeks in Panama, always finding ideas and material for paintings.

She has also studied with master painters including: West Fraser, Albert Handel, Ken Auster, Rick McClure, Kim English, Alex Power, William Jamison, Martin Ahrens, and Mary Whyte.
