Joan considers her paintings to be reality-based fantasies. Her intention is to reward the viewer of her art with a sensory jolt that will make them more aware of the beauty and color in our world; and especially in nature.

An appreciation of our world, and nature and flowers in particular, began as a child growing up in a small town in rural Michigan. That life-long fascination now finds expression in Joan's favorite medium, watercolor; as well as acrylics, collages, and batiks.

The creation of art provides her with great personal satisfaction, and also an instrument to provide (what she hopes is) a pleasurable experience for her viewers.
