Buy The Change is an example of deciding to take action for a better world.

 

We founded the company in 2011 to make an economic difference for women living in poverty where opportunity is scarce and exploitation is common.

 

We are a business run by women, for the purpose of empowering women. We also LOVE living as green as we can. Many of our products are made from recycled and upcycled materials.

 

Every time a caring customer, like you, buys a blanket, bag or piece of jewelry, we use that money to buy more products from more talented, hardworking women around the globe.

 

Our partner artisans are living in countries where there is very little support from governments and families are often left with no resources.

 

We work with NGO's (non-government, non-profit organizations) that are on the ground in each country where we source products. We believe these organizations know the pulse of their countries. They help us find small independent cooperatives and home based artisans to partner with.

Buy The Change products are ethically made and always fairly traded. As a registered B-Corp from 2013 to 2016 we are focused on social change over profit and creating positive outcomes for everyone we do business with; including artisans, employees and customers. We are proud to say that we were named to the B-Lab "Best of the World" List for 4 years in a row based on our impact assessment scores.

 

It's our job to bring you products that are of the highest quality, eco-friendly AND beautiful.

 

The women artisans we partner with are incredibly talented. Some of them learned their craft from their mothers and grandmothers, others received training through NGO training programs or in cooperative groups. They are always excited and thrilled to know that customers in the United States love their products.

 

We always pay our artisans upfront. When you see an item in our inventory, the artisan has already been paid in full.

 

Our ongoing goal is that you will be thrilled every time you open a package from us, both because the item you chose is beautiful and high quality, but also because you have made a direct difference in the life of a woman and her family.

 

We travel the world to meet and develop relationships with our partner artisans, each of which is living a unique story of struggle, determination, and resilience. They are living in a variety of situations; from mountain villages to city slums. Some were trafficked as young girls, some live in shelters or group homes, some are home based workers, others have small businesses and sell at markets.

 

They are all determined women who won't give up hope for a better future.  

 

And we have grown: In 2013 we founded the Buy The Change Foundation, a registered 501©3 non-profit. A portion of every sale from this web-store is donated to the BTCF.  We give grants to our partner artisans to help them eliminate barriers to business and family success.

 

The Foundation has funded water filters in Guatemala, sewing machines in Haiti, Cambodia and Uganda, metal working equipment in Cambodia, and much more.
