Helen Percy Lystra

Helen Percy Lystra is a painter working primarily in watermedia though she also enjoys experimenting with other media.

Lystra grew up on Union Lake in Commerce Township, Michigan, and began drawing and designing at an early age.  She is a graduate of Grand Valley State University and studied at Hillsdale College and at the Art Institute of Chicago.  Her study continues with ongoing workshops.

She calls Grand Haven home and is constantly inspired by her surroundings and the many artist friends who live and work in the area.  Her work can also be seen regularly at the Gallery Uptown in downtown Grand Haven, Michigan.  It is also included in private and corporate collections around the world.

About her work she says:  "I make art because I'm a lousy housekeeper, the art gives me an excuse to be messy.  Besides, it's fun.  I guess what it really boils down to is that I make art because I just need to do it.  That's it, no search for the meaning of life or anything else, I just need to do it so I do."
